ABOUT MATERIALS
ABOUT MATERIALS
Specific materials used in this item will be listed above.
All materials used are solid materials and are nickel free. There is no plated material in my work.
SILVER: Sterling silver is often labeled as 925 silver. This means that 7.5% copper has been added to the silver to make it stronger and more suitable for regular wear. I do not label all of my silver jewelry because it creates a dent which effects the design, but I can assure you that everything that "looks" silver in my work is sterling silver. The only exception being the bezels around stones, which are fine silver.
BRASS: The brass that I use is called "Jeweler's Brass" or "Red Brass". It is a mixture of copper and zinc, which was created to look similar to 14k gold.
BRONZE: Bronze is a mixture of copper and tin. It has a warmer tone and looks similar to rose gold.

JEWELRY CARE
JEWELRY CARE
Sterling silver, brass, and bronze are all prone to darkening over time, commonly referred to as "tarnish". This is the completely natural process of oxidation (exposure to oxygen) which occurs on most natural metals.
To remove oxidation and to restore shine on your jewelry you can use a polishing cloth. A commonly recommended one is called a "Sunshine Cloth".
If you have a more stubborn layer of oxidation you can try using steel wool. I recommend 0000-grade steel wool labeled "super fine". Use in circular motions and follow up with a polishing cloth. This approach is much more aggressive and should never be used on plated metals or directly on a stone.
To prevent the speed of oxidation occurring on your jewelry:
-Store your jewelry in an airtight bag. This is a good idea if you will not be wearing that item for an extended period of time.
-Do not store your jewelry in a bathroom. The increased moisture and humidity in a bathroom will accelerate oxidation
-Remove jewelry when applying lotions and sunscreens
-Remove jewelry while showering, washing dishes, or during times of excessive sweating
-And last but not least, wear your jewelry! When you wear your jewelry regularly it will get polished during your daily activities and will stay nice and shiny.
